Welcome

I’m Eben E. B. Bein (they). I live at the miraculous interface of climate justice, education, organizing, and the arts. Thank you for visiting my hub for all passions.

I grew up in a cohousing community on Nipmuc land (Acton, MA). I received a B.A. in biology and teaching certificate from Dartmouth College and an M.S. in Science Writing from MIT. I taught biology for six years at the likes of Revere High School and Phillips Exeter Academy. While teaching, I began to learn the distinction between teaching and organizing from alongside my students, and starting in 2018, I left the traditional classroom to focus on this work. (I told this story for GBH/World Channel here.)

Since then, I have worked with many nonprofits, including Our Climate, Clean Water Action, and Solar United Neighbors, to develop and facilitate learning and advocacy experiences for young climate justice advocates. I am a founding and the longest-standing Adult Administrator for the Massachusetts Youth Climate Coalition, where I co-learn with and advocate alongside young people in over 25 organizations across the state. I am a frequent guest speaker, facilitator and creator of climate justice curricula. I currently live in a co-owned house on Pawtucket land (Arlington, MA) with my husband and friends, where I have recently fallen deeply and obsessively in love with poetry.

To learn more about me and my work please explore using the above menu or through the following links:

  • I’m an educator/facilitator. To learn why I combine those words, read here.  I also currently teach and learn about climate justice with young people. As a facilitator, I help organizations, institutions, and coalitions mitigate and adapt to climate change, and build trust and consensus across difference. I came to this kind of work via my first calling as a biology teacher.
  • I am a writer. I design and write curricula for anyone wanting to join the climate justice movement. I’m also a widely published and anthologized poet. I trained in science writing and currently create accessible, thoughtful educational resources as well as write and edit op-eds and speeches. I am also (slowly) writing a book about what I’ve learned from my transition from teaching into organizing.
  • I am a speaker. Whether as a keynote on climate education, a rally speaker on environmental policy, or a guest artist on a podcast, I give my voice generously in ways that engage and bring others into our shared work.
